The Courage of Coretta

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an extraordinary man in every sense of the word. And beside him every step of the way was a just as amazing and as strong woman named Coretta Scott.

With dreams of her own to share her musical talents with the world, she married the charming preacher. Together they made the ultimate sacrifice for their children and the world's. He gave up time to see his own children's first steps and special moments to tend to the masses of hurting and denied people. Her strength to carry on the family and keep their children safe and strong allowed him to walk boldly out of their house. Both knowing it could always be his last.

It's hard enough for a marriage with the normal bumps of merging two into one. Add wire taps, constant FBI surveillance and death threats, and we can only imagine. Edgar J. Hoover was undaunted by newspapers' decisions not to run news of King's infidelity, so the FBI leader decided to personally send tapes of the nonviolent leader's indisrections to his wife. It broke her heart.

Love healed it back and her public faithfulness and support to her husband never wavered. Loving a King definitely takes a Queen.
